The Fourth Sunday in Lent
Mothering Sunday

A prayer for all those affected by coronavirus

Keep us, good Lord,
under the shadow of your mercy.
Sustain and support the anxious,
be with those who care for the sick,
and lift up all who are brought low;
that we may find comfort
knowing that nothing can separate us from your love
in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.

VERSE FOR THE WEEK: 1 Thessalonians 2:5-7 St Paul writes to his friends, “As you know and as God is our witness, we never came with words of flattery or with a pretext for greed; nor did we seek praise from mortals, whether from you or from others, though we might have made demands as apostles of Christ. But we were gentle among you, like a nurse tenderly caring for her own children.”

TODAY: ‘Mother Church’ is supposed to be one of the ‘goodies’. Why then are we seen by so many of the younger generation as leading ‘baddies’? Justifiably so?

Collect for Mothering Sunday: God of compassion, whose Son Jesus Christ, the child of Mary, shared the life of a home in Nazareth, and on the cross drew the whole human family to himself: strengthen us in our daily living that in joy and sorrow we may know the power of your presence to bind together and to heal; through our Lord Jesus Christ, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. AMEN

Collect for Fourth Sunday of Lent (BCP): Grant, we beseech thee, Almighty God, that we, who for our evil deeds do worthily deserve to be punished, by the comfort of thy grace may mercifully be relieved; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  AMEN

Readings:  Exodus 2.1-10: 2 Corinthians 1.3-7: Luke 2.33-35

MP: Psalm 27: 1 Samuel 16.1-13: John 9.1-25

EP: Numbers 21.4-9: John 3.14-21

MOTHERING SUNDAY

Given current restrictions it is impossible to plan the usual flowers and mingling for our services. However we will be celebrating ‘Mother Church’.

GETTING READY FOR SUMMER?

Thinking of sowing some seeds or taking some cuttings to make the garden ready for a staycation?  Please could you grow some extra to help us?  Running a fete might still be difficult this year so we are planning on running a plant stall, maybe more, on Saturdays throughout May to raise money for the church’s charitable giving. More on this later… In the meantime dust off those gardening tools and fill some of those empty flower pots! Contact Loraine Hollett for details.

LEAVING AND FAREWELL

The Harpers are planning to move out of the Rectory on Tuesday April 13th to their house in Little Kimble, Bucks. As gatherings of any sort will in all likelihood still be impossible, we plan to return on Sunday July 4th to say farewell, morning in St Mary’s and evening at All Saints, but we shall see how the pandemic progresses.

We have to clear the house completely. If anyone would like a serviceable fridge freezer, fridge, wardrobe, single bed, matching study Ikea chair and sofa, 2-seater sofa, desks and various other bits and pieces of furniture at that point in April please let Tim know. Collection only!

NEW PARISH WEBSITE

The early draft versions are well under way and we hope to launch the cross-parish version in the not too distant future.

CHILDREN’S STORY TIME

Given the current lockdown the Rector will resume this every week, and it can be found on the parish streaming site later each Saturday.

A PASTORAL CHAT

Do contact any of the clergy for a chat by phone, facetime or Zoom about anything that is concerning you. Time we have!

DONATIONS TO ST MARY’S AND ALL SAINTS

While the buildings are shut there is likely to be a significant drop in income for the parish. If you would like to make a donation or catch up with planned giving and have online banking the easiest way is to make a BACS payment – please contact the Parish Office to get the details (it has been brought to our attention that the information previously displayed could be hacked from the notice). Many already donate by Standing Order so please let our Treasurer know if you want any help in changing to this. Please contact Graeme Coles at Treasurer-pcc@outlook.com. For All Saints Coleshill the details are: Please speak to Peter Clackett on 01494 433044
